Ryan proudly served as a Police Officer with the New York City Police Department, assigned to the 34th Precinct. Since joining the department on January 29, 2025, he had embraced a career that brought him immense pride and purpose. Those who worked alongside him remember an officer who approached every shift with professionalism, integrity, and a sincere commitment to serving the people of New York City.

For Ryan, becoming a police officer was more than a profession it was a calling. He valued the camaraderie of the NYPD and found fulfillment in serving alongside fellow officers while making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Following news of his passing, the NYPD Gaelic Football Club shared a heartfelt tribute honoring one of its own.

The club expressed its deep sadness over the loss of Ryan, remembering him as a valued teammate with a bright future both as a police officer and as a Gaelic football player. His enthusiasm, dedication, and positive attitude left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of sharing the field with him.

Born on November 24, 1997, in Suffern, New York, Ryan was the beloved son of Edward McDonald and Kara O’Keeffe McDonald. He graduated from Pearl River High School as a member of the Class of 2015 before earning a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Fordham University.

Never one to stop learning, Ryan continued his education at Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2023. His academic accomplishments reflected both his determination and his desire to serve others in meaningful ways.

Ryan was also deeply proud of his heritage as a member of the Comanche Nation Tribe of Oklahoma. He devoted considerable time to learning about the history, traditions, and culture of his people and took great pride in preserving that connection. His commitment even extended to studying the Comanche language, reflecting a sincere desire to strengthen his understanding of his Native American ancestry.

Outside of his professional life, Ryan developed a passion for Gaelic sports through his involvement with the Rockland County GAA, where he discovered a love for hurling. That passion eventually led him to the NYPD Gaelic Football Club, where he built lasting friendships and became part of another close-knit community that he treasured.

Whether on the playing field or in uniform, Ryan approached every challenge with dedication, humility, and enthusiasm. His teammates remember him not only as a talented athlete but also as someone who encouraged others, fostered teamwork, and embodied the values of respect and sportsmanship.

Above all else, Ryan will be remembered for the person he was. Friends and loved ones describe him as kind, thoughtful, and compassionate, with an infectious smile and an easygoing personality that made everyone feel welcome. His sense of humor, generosity, and genuine concern for others created lasting friendships and left an enduring impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Ryan is survived by his loving parents, Edward McDonald and Kara O’Keeffe McDonald; his brother, Kyle McDonald; along with many devoted aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, friends, fellow officers, and teammates.

He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Kevin McDonald; his maternal grandparents, Wilda and Norman O’Keeffe; and his paternal grandparents, Mary and John McDonald.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River, New York.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Blauvelt, New York, followed by interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet, New York.

In honor of Ryan’s life and service, his family has requested that memorial donations be made to the NYPD Widow and Orphans Fund through the NYC PBA Widows and Children’s Fund, supporting the families of New York City police officers.

As loved ones gather to celebrate Ryan’s life, they remember a devoted son, loving brother, proud police officer, accomplished scholar, dedicated athlete, and loyal friend. Though his life ended far too soon, his legacy of service, compassion, and commitment to others will continue to inspire those who knew him.
